It has been a strange time being off, one that I am sure we won't experience often in our careers (hopefully!). Like many we have been closed since March 2020 and are unlikely to start back till June/July 2020 and a return to normality is yet to be determined. As I reflect upon this period of my life, I try to stay positive and look at the benefits of spending more time with the family, doing more exercise (somehow I exercise more and put on more weight lol) and trying to learn and improve my knowledge and skill. Yet, one cannot help but feel this situation of stress and uncertainty could have been reduced by our so called dental leaders and organisations. To be fair I can appreciate that this is uncharted waters but a great leader is one that reassures others and instills confidence in their teams through both the good and the bad times. Myself as a simple dentist have always believed that if you do your best for others it will always be in your benefit in the long run. I hope this time it really works out. I hope that patients will appreciate their dentist more (probably will be great for a while and then forgotten about! lol). I hope this situation clarifies our minds in really defining what the important things in life are.
